I’m Amy and I live with my college friends Sarah and Maria. Recently, three guys from our classes moved into the apartment next door, and we decided we would welcome them to the building by inviting them over for dinner. As you can imagine, my girlfriends and I are busy with our study all the time, and we all manage at least one part time job to pay our way. Anyhow, when we invited the guys to come around for dinner, they joked with us, saying they were certain we wouldn’t cook for them because we’d be too busy, or worse – we weren’t capable of pulling it off!
The three of us laughed along with our friends, and then I suggested a bet – I bet $100 that we wouldn’t just cook for them, but we’d cook meals that were equal, or better, than those their mothers would cook! The bet was on without hesitation, and the girls and I put our heads together. We didn’t know what we’d prepare!
Being college students, one thing we’re pretty good at is research via the net, and that’s exactly where we turned to find the perfect recipe to win our bet! That’s how we discovered Tested Slow Cooker Recipes That Work at www.longlostslowcookingsecrets.com.
The fact that we could do this using a slow cooker really appealed, because it meant easy preparation and really, really tender meat. We all know the tenderness of meat is a winner every time, and we had a hundred bucks to win!
Another sure fire winner is mustard. Nothing beats that gorgeous flavor, so
that’s why we decided we would prepare Honey Mustard Pork Roast. These
are the ingredients we used to create this gorgeous dish:
• 1 onion, chopped
• 2 apples
• 3 tbsp. honey mustard
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 1/4 tsp. pepper
• 1 (2 lb.) rolled boneless pork roast
• 1 tbsp. cornstarch
• 2 tbsp. water
As yummy as this recipe sounds, the preparation was really easy – even
for a bunch of college kids!
• We peeled the apples and cut them into 1” pieces.
• We mixed the onion and apples in a 4-6 quart slow cooker.
• We spread honey mustard over the pork roast and sprinkled with salt and pepper.
• We then placed the coated roast on top of the onions and apples, which we covered and cooked on low for 7-8 hours.
• The roast was then removed and covered with foil, while we made the sauce by
combining the cornstarch and water in a medium saucepan.
• We blended the cornstarch and water with a wire whisk.
• We then added the juices, apples and onions from the slow cooker to the saucepan, and then cooked over medium heat until the mixture boiled and thickened, stirring frequently.
• We served the roast with sauce and a beautiful selection of roasted vegetables.
Before our guests even knocked on our door, they could smell the roast cooking and were clearly looking forward to eating!
The roast won them over completely, and we had our $100! Not a bad effort when you consider that one of their moms is a chef!! We figure we have this book to thank, and now, because our cooking is so popular, we even purchased and Tested Slow Cooker Recipes That Work for each of our guests!
I recommend this book to anybody!
